Situated within the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere and less than 2.5 miles from Tofino, Vargas Island is an iconic and stunning west coast island of approximately 7,700 acres, almost half of which is contained within the Vargas Island Provincial Park. Prominently located on the northwest tip of the island, this property provides for 65 acres and over 6,000 feet of waterfront, 750 feet of which is located on a sandy walk on beach just north of popular Ahous Bay. One of less than a dozen privately owned properties on the island, and one of only two private properties with west facing waterfront, this property is situated directly within the Provincial Park.

The Vargas Islands Provincial Park was created as part of the Clayoquot Land Use Decision in 1995. Consisting of 3,810 acres, the Park covers most of the western half of the Island. The most popular area, Ahous Bay, provides a beach similar to Tofino’s Long Beach but with very few visitors. Given the location immediately adjacent to Tofino however, Vargas Island is relatively accessible with water taxi service providing frequent visits to the island for park visitors. As of writing, return trips cost $55 per person.

Vargas Island is an undeveloped and raw west coast island, popular for its well known wildlife viewing opportunities of wolves, bears, birdlife and of course marine life such as the gray whales that frequent this area. This property would be an excellent acquisition for a private residence or a group purchase for a wilderness retreat. Currently zoned A4, the property is being reviewed for inclusion with the RE Resource Zoning Bylaw.
